The Fritz Haber Institute (FHI) in Berlin-Dahlem is one of the oldest and most renowned research institutes within the Max Planck Society (MPG), Germany's most successful scientific organization. At the FHI, researchers from all over the world are engaged in basic research in the field of chemical physics at interfaces and surfaces, catalysis research and molecular physics.

Postdoctoral position (m/f/d)

metal-based catalysis for energy conversion

In the Department of Inorganic Chemistry we are dealing with fundamental research to understand the basic physical and chemical principles of existing catalytic processes and to discover new ways of transforming energy and producing chemicals and alternative synthetic fuels sustainably and to reduce the emission of carbon dioxide. Our studies include the conversion of water, carbon dioxide, nitrogen and light hydrocarbons in gas- and liquid-phase reactions over solid catalysts. For this purpose, we operate a large number of specifically designed laboratory reactors.

Your tasks

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in the field of thermal catalysis with the main focus on testing of metal thin film catalyst under the reaction conditions follow by its characterization using means of temperature program methods (TDS). The modification of the metal catalyst for optimal performance under CO2 hydrogenation and ammonia synthesis will be required. Also, adaptation of dedicated reactors to measure thin film catalyst under kinetic region is foreseen. Work will involve the collaboration with colleagues from spectroscopy, microscopy and thin film design fields. Additionally, an access to the Synchrotron based experiments will be guaranteed.

    Your profile

We are looking for highly motivated scientist with social skills, who is able lead an own project and simultaneously be part of a team. The candidate should have a strong background in heterogeneous catalysis. A PhD in chemical engineering or eventually chemistry is required.

    We offer

A postdoctoral position for 2 years with the possibility of extension. Work in stimulating international scientific society.

    Your application

Please submit your application via our online application portal as soon as possible but latest by April 1st, 2024 including the following documents following documents:
